Our Work & How
What we do:
Apart from offering formal education in accordance with the curriculum provided by our government for all schools in Kenya, we also encourage our children get involved in social life transformation activities which help them overcome self internalized social stigma. During our life transformation activities we apply solution focused approach where our children are encouraged to fully take part in life transformation activities to help them overome self internalized stigma.
We believe that by providing our beneficiaries with quality Basic Education and also helping them open up and tell their own personal stories, act in role plays/drama and theatre, drawing and painting, photography, video and film production, they will be able to gain self esteem, be proactive, assertive, and healthy. The aim is for our children to eventually become, after the life transformation process, mindset change makers to the society on the strength of an orphaned child!
In second term of our school calendar(May to August 2016) our children participated in Kenya Music Festival competitions and qualified upto National Music Festivals in Nairobi. This was a great achievement for our young school since this was our first time participating in such event. We are very happy about our achievement. Thanks to all who supported us to come this far.
How we do it
Having identified the most needy orphans and vulnerable children in our communities, we encourage and allow them to attend school regularly at our Albert Schweitzer School where they are provided with quality Basic Education. We have government trained teachers who help our children acquire quality basic education following our government's set curriculum under our homely environment.
We partner with all organizations working with the same target group in Kisumu County. The most outstanding are Plan International (K), Aphia Plus, Walter Reed Project- Kombewa, St. Francis Oriang', Alwango CBO, among others. We also work with all relevant government line departments dealing with children affairs, Ministry of Public Health, Ministry of Education as well as the Provincial Administrations in our area.
We also work with individuals and groups working with orphans in our community.
